There are a few fall traditions that I really love, and one of them is carving a pumpkin. So, this weekend, we decided to carve up our pumpkin with the Little People. Mr. M "built" a fire in our fireplace- who can pass up those log/brick things, where all you do is light the bag on fire, it's awesome (he'll save his boyscout fire building skills for the "real" wood later on in the season)! The Little People enjoyed scooping out the seeds, but N. wanted nothing to do with touching the pumpkin "mucus," and he also insisted on the pumpkin having teeth. The "carving fun" wore off quickly when the Little People realized it was going to take some time to get the pumpkin carved. They were quite willing, however, to zone into the world of the Backyardigans, while Mr. M. carved away all by his lonesome. The evening ended with an oatmeal & toast picnic on the floor, a family viewing of the Backyardigans (take two), a well carved, toothy, grinning, pumpkin (high-five, Mr. M), and of course- my favorite part- crunchy, salty, freshly, toasted pumpkin seeds!
