there once was a mama,
who didn't like pet creatures.
mainly because, she already had three
marvelous & perfectly-mess-creating children.
and the mama knew.
she knew too much about children and caring for pets.
she knew who really cares for the pet {and it's not the daddy or the children}.
and yet, they begged her for a creature of some sort.
and so, she pondered their request-
and came back to her parents childhood pet solution.
absolutely! yes! this mama said.
you may have your creature.
and thus- every summer.
several specially chosen turtle creatures
{which granddad k. saved from the peril of the missouri highway}-
have found their home in our backdoors.
the children love them-
and this mama loves that they stay outside in their lovely grassy mud pen.
and guests are brought from far and wide-
to the turtle creatures.
they are wined & dined on the juiciest worms.
and then, when the summer end comes-
we'll send them back to a nearby park & lake reserve.
and this mama can cheerfully say farewell-
till next year turtle creatures!

You are brilliant, Hannah. Seriously. I am not an animal person, either. And yet we have a dog... a high needs one. How could I say no when my husband insisted 6 years ago that it was his DREAM to own a dog? Sigh.
ReplyDeletethx, emily! here's to wishing turtles upon your future....{after the doggie is gone.}. ;).
