nboy: "ggirl. don't walk in the deep mud. it will suck your boots in."
ggirl: "nboy! no it wont!"
nboy: "yes. it will. it happened to me. and i was stuck for a long time."
ggirl: "nboy. look see me?! i am not stuck in the mud."
nboy: "just wait a minute. it happens slowly. and then you're stuck."
ggirl: "no. that doesn't happen to me."
nboy: "you're going to fall...."
ggirl: giggle, giggle, giggle
ggirl: "i not fall, nboy!"
nboy: "you still might. and if you do you'll be covered in the mud- and i will think it is so funny, ggirl." {snicker, snicker}
ggirl: "i will laugh too. it's funny to be in the mud!" {giggle, giggle}
ggirl: "nboy. look at me. i did it. i didn't fall. can you do it?"
nboy: "i don't know. i was stuck in the mud for a long time, last year- i don't want to be stuck again."
{mama translation: it was last week- he left his rain boots filled with mud in the mud hole...and it took a LONG time for them to dry out. i promise i'm not leaving him helplessly stuck, in the mud, outside in our backyard- for days or "years".}
nboy: "i think i will just jump in the mud. it's safer. you don't usually get stuck for a long time that way. right mom?"
nboy: "mom. this is great! i am not getting stuck at all! mom you need to try this!!"
